Soor Aur Saptak™ is a community Bollywood-style music group of talented singers and dancers was founded in 2012 by Sandhiprakash and Anjali Bhide. Our vision is to give vision, literally, to those most in need.
Birth of Soor Aur Saptak™
Around 2012, I talked to many people about forming a karaoke Bollywood music group and using our God given talent to raise money for the blind. I was told “Nobody would come”, “Karaoke and no live band? No one would come”, “Ticketed event? No one would come”, “Who wants to listen to karaoke music for two hours”. I was told “It Couldn’t Be Done”, so I decided to try it and keep trying it until it stuck and that is when Soor Aur Saptak™ was born. I got lot of help along the way. At that time, with the help many singers, the “I” changed to “We”, my dream became our collective dream, the Portland Community’s dream and a community undertaking. We are happy to say that this Portland community is one of the most giving, kind, generous and caring community with a big heart of gold.
Community Support
Over the last ten years there is really no limit to how many volunteers came and helped – they are the unsung heroes. And there are hundreds of donors who have helped raise close to a quarter million dollars over the last eight years of SAS’s existence. For the last two years, Sonrise Church of Hillsboro has graciously allowed us to use their tremendous facility. Helping hands have come from every community: Gujarathi Samaj, ICA, GPTA, GPTM, OMM, Kannada Kutta, Prabhashi, Hindi Samaj, HECSA, SWORUM and others. It has now become a truly Portland Community event. Truly, it does take a village to get a program of this magnitude going. Again, we have been successful because of the generous, kind hearted, and philanthropic Portland community who have given so much. You have heart of gold.
